Offering Copper Patina
I have a friend that does roofing and he mentioned to me that he gets a lot of copper that he turns in for recycling when they remove flashing from a roof. He offered me sheets of the copper which has patina. My question is: Ideas on what I can do with roofing copper that has patina? It seems there must be something that I can do with it? If you help me, I can send you some?

Oh, goodness... I would think you could do everything from cutting and stamping and then etching, use letter or figural stamps or texture hammers to change the look. Make/cut it into a focal for a bracelet or necklace. Cut shapes, bend the edges-curl them and make some earrings. I think I'd even try and see if you could punch them into circles, then again to make a hole and you'd have some cool disks to add with your beading. Goggle copper flashing, see if there are any cool links?!? Please post photos, after you get to play with it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE roofing copper. Make sure you seal the patina with a spray sealer if you don't want it to loose that patina or just file it off to reveal the bare copper. I wish I had a roofer to get some from hmmm.... I may have to start asking around.
ReplyDeleteI am willing to share what he sends. He is accumulating it for me and there will be enough to go around!
DeleteOh, what a great resource! I do love copper, even though I haven't really explored the 'metal' end of jewelry design. I am trying to incorporate metal into my pieces more, so I'd love to play with some with you and see what we can come up with!
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know when he send a box of it to me so we can "play and experiment" with it!
DeleteI have the copper. Offering FREE to anyone that can help me learn to work with it!
